De quoi avons-nous besoin pour VOW?

Si nous voulons débarrasser le monde du COVID-19, nous devons nous promettre de vacciner notre monde maintenant. Nous pouvons le faire en:

  • Collectant 100 milliards de dollars - assez pour obtenir des doses suffisantes pour vacciner notre monde maintenant
  • Achetant 7 milliards de vaccins COVID-19 en un an pour tous les citoyens du monde, en particulier pour les habitants des pays en développement.
  • Renonçant ou la suspension de tous les brevets de vaccin COVID-19 pendant l'urgence de santé publique mondiale.
  • Éliminant toutes les restrictions sur le partage d'informations et de données - une transparence à 100% est nécessaire.
  • Faisant la promotion de la coopération internationale, et non la politique, comme force motrice pour mettre fin à la pandémie.

Si nous voulons garantir l'équité en matière de vaccins, le monde doit:

Rassembler 100 milliards de dollars pour obtenir suffisamment de vaccins pour vacciner le monde entier. Les dirigeants du G20 et des institutions financières mondiales telles que le Fonds monétaire international et la Banque mondiale doivent s'engager à intensifier leurs contributions immédiatement.

Même avec la production actuelle de vaccins qui a atteint des niveaux maximaux, les fabricants de vaccins sont toujours incapables de répondre à la demande de doses vitales de COVID-19. Si le monde veut lutter contre cette pandémie et les futures pandémies, la production de vaccins doit être augmentée sur tous les continents. On ne peut tout simplement pas compter sur une poignée de sociétés pharmaceutiques pour vacciner le monde entier.

Les vaccins COVID-19 sont principalement financés par les contribuables - et non par les sociétés pharmaceutiques. Nous devons appeler tous les fabricants de vaccins à partager ouvertement leur technologie et leur propriété intellectuelle - et que les gouvernements veillent à ce que les vaccins COVID-19 soient déclarés bien public. Nous pouvons regarder des exemples du passé, comme l'épidémie de SIDA, et sauver le monde comme nous l'avons fait avec les médicaments antirétroviraux contre le VIH.

Nous devons plaider en faveur d'un mandat exécutoire pour garantir la transparence et la responsabilité de tous les pays et organisations en matière de santé publique mondiale.

La majeure partie des achats de vaccins a été réalisée dans le cadre d'accords à huis clos entre les gouvernements individuels et les sociétés pharmaceutiques où peu d'informations sont publiées sur les détails des accords, ce qui fait grimper les coûts des vaccins. Pendant cette pandémie et pendant toute pandémie, tous les accords sur les vaccins devraient être rendus publics pour encourager une coopération accrue et garantir que tous les pays sont en mesure d'accéder à des médicaments et des vaccins abordables.

De nombreux pays, dont le Canada, les États-Unis, le Royaume-Uni et l'Union européenne, ont acheté suffisamment de vaccins pour vacciner leur population plusieurs fois. Face à une pénurie mondiale, ces pays doivent être contraints de partager leurs stocks excédentaires de vaccins. À un moment où la majorité du monde a peu accès aux vaccins, les nations devraient établir un cadre pour garantir que le reste du monde puisse également être protégé. Si un pays n’est pas à l’abri du COVID-19, aucun d’entre nous n’est à l’abri.

Of the nearly 10 billion vaccine doses administered worldwide, only 9.5% of people in low-income countries have received at least one dose, compared to 85% and 75% of people in Canada and the U.S., respectively.
